Okay, I coined this one myself, but it is a sub genre I have been thinking about for a while. The SASSIES are the Scientific Amateur Sleuth Sisters. In other words, these gals have careers in a science profession other than those which are associated with professional crime solving, such as the forensic pathology. The amateurs work in scientific or technical businesses, academic settings, regulatory agencies, etc. They can be in biotechnology, nanotechnology or cloud computing.
The SASSIES often find themselves in Thrillzies, because they tend to go after bad guys who are a little more complicated than your basic rotten ex-husband. SASSIES like thrilling adventures, but they don't throw as many punches or splash buckets of blood which is what we have come to expect from contemporary thrillers. SASSIES are just as worldly wise as other thriller protagonists, but they are a lot neater.
My protagonist, Nola Billingsley is a SASSIE, and she exemplifies how SASSIES are taking mysteries into new territory -- the modern workplace, where women have high-powered careers in high tech, aerospace, high finance, biosciences, etc. They are tough because they have broken so many glass ceilings!
